Latisha's Biography:
Latisha Simmons is the founder, publisher and CEO of MahoganyGirl.com. Born and raised in South Carolina Latisha always had a love for hip hop music and everything entertainment. After graduating from High School in 1997, she traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area to attend The Academy of Art College Fine Arts program. While studying Motion Picture, Film & Video she developed an interest in editing, interviewing and still photography. Unsure of the path she wanted to choose Latisha returned to South Carolina where she began a career in radio broadcasting and producing.
In 1999 at the Myrtle Beach radio station Mix 97.7 FM she co-hosted and co-produced an underground raw and uncut radio show called "The Real Hip Hop" which aired 4 nights per week. When the show was cancelled due to politics and format changes, she found herself closer to home at WWBZ Hot 98.9fm in Charleston, South Carolina. Co-Hosting a Sunday afternoon show called "Old School 101."
Still trying to find her niche, Latisha returned to California in 2001 but this time decided to make Los Angeles her home away from home. Within a week of arriving, she responded to an ad in the Los Angeles Sentinel calling for hip-hop writers. Latisha tried it and the rest is history. She began submitting more freelance articles to The Los Angeles Sentinel and to other outlets such as; Rolling Out Urban Style Weekly, Crunk Magazine, digitallsd.com, Rime Magazine, and Hue Magazine to name a few. She also conducted stringer duties for Essence Magazine and acted as editor-in-chief for the debut issue of True Magazine.
In 2003, Latisha Simmons launched MahoganyGirl.com, an Online Entertainment site for Hip Hop Women. Featuring exclusive celebrity interviews, reviews, exclusive photos, what's hot trends, special lifestyle features, and exciting advertorial promotions for fans. MahoganyGirl.com also features a successful blog that includes exclusive commentary by Latisha Simmons, music videos, politics and news. The MahoganyGirl blogspot reached over 20,000 visitors in its first year. MahoganyGirl.com & The MahoganyGirl.com BlogSpot have captured a domestic and international audience of women black, white, Asian, Mexican and Latinos from 18 to 45 years of age. MahoganyGirl has also gained increasing interest from men 18 to 45. MahoganyGirl takes pride in delivering soild and fun information to our audience without gossip, rumors and sensationalism, which has made us very influential in the crowded media marketplace.
MahoganyGirl Television (MGTV) the online television section of MahoganyGirl.com is still blossoming. In the future, MGTV will feature a variety of shows and clips from the growing movement of independent web content. This will include talk shows, comedy, movie shorts and much more as it relates to the demographic. In the future MGTV will be a platform for exclusive MahoganyGirl produced shows, documentaries and movies.
