When Lil Wayne dropped his fourth album, Tha Carter the sleepers and the doubters had no choice but to take notice. Realizing what the hood has known all along. That the boy Weezy is hot…You could also say he's one of the hottest in the game right now and who could disagree the music speaks for itself... With the release of his fifth solo album Tha Carter II, Lil Wayne proves that he's not just a rapper signed to Cash Money Records but a true emcee. And with Mannie Fresh leaving Cash Money and dealing with the aftermath of the losses of family and friends he suffered due to Hurricane Katrina there is a lot to me addressed this time around. Lil Wayne is delivering lyrical content for days with the new production to match on Tha Carter II. He's cruising in his own lane and fueled with more fire than ever before. But ya'll at ready. Allow me to reintroduce Weezy F. Baby… Please say the baby….
MahoganyGirl: First of all I want to thank you for the last interview. It was one of the most read interviews on MahoganyGirl.com. I appreciate the support.
Lil Wayne: No, Thank You.
MG: No really. Much love. I think this is like our fifth or sixth interview. You know how Oprah has John Travolta…
LW: [Laughs]
MG: You're my John Travolta doggie [Laughs]… Let's talk about Tha Carter II. It's your fifth album and this is coming off the success of Tha Carter, which was a hood classic. Why did you decide to do part II?
LW: I just wanted to continue with what I was doing and keep moving with that theme. It's like you said the album was a hood classic. So why not keep going with that… It's me it's Tha Carter… I'm Dwayne Carter so I just wanted to keep it going…
MG: I'm always asking you about your underdog status and being slept on. But with Tha Carter it looks likes you killed all that and you've remained consistent.
LW: Thank You.
MG: Now people are looking at you as more of a true lyricist not just a rapper. How do you feel about that???
LW: I really don't stop to think about it. I just keep doing it and keep moving. I'm back with the second round and I'm just gonna keep doing it.
MG: You worked with a lot of different producers on Tha Carter II. What was behind the move to change your sound?
LW: It was my idea. I wanted to take chances. Everybody is use to hearing me on the same sound. One particular sound all the time and it was time to evaporate from that and get on a new level.
MG: How did the collaboration with Kurupt come about?
LW: He's cool with my papa… He was kickin it with Baby and Baby called and told me he had a song with Kurupt on the hook. I heard the song and just did a song on it and kept Kurupt on the hook.
MG: When Tha Carter dropped you told me the stand out track would be "Go DJ" and that blow up like nitro… What tracks are standing out this time around?
LW: People are telling me they like the song "Receipt" and some people are feeling "Shooter"…
MG: I know you have Young Money Entertainment but now you're the President of Cash Money Records. I'm sure Baby and Slim as CEO's have their way of doing business. Do you have plans to bring something different to the table?
LW: As of now I do but I got my own company. And like you said Baby and Slim are over at Cash Money too… So I stay within their boundaries creatively but with Young Money Entertainment since it's my company I do what I want to do. That's my job and my main focus right now… It's my creativity and my ideas
MG: Okay… So how will you be contributing to Cash Money?
LW: I'll be doing the same things I was always doing… I just didn't have the title of President. If you want to sign with Cash Money you got to go through me… I have to approve it. I got to approve your album, your single and your look. When I deal with Cash Money it's a certain code we go by but with Young Money I do what I want.
MG: Tell me about the artists on Young Money Entertainment… I know you had an R&B singer name Reel before… Do you still have him?
LW: No, I don't have Reel anymore. Right now, I got Nikki she's an R&B singer from Ohio and I got Currency he's dropping in March. And Mack Maine.
MG: : Now… About this Trina situation… You know I have to give you a hard time…Pause [Laughs]
LW: [Laughs]
MG: How is everything?
LW: Everything is good…We're happy. We're chillin…
MG: So…Did you take her to Crustacean's yet?
LW: No…[Laughs] I didn't take her to Crustacean's…
MG: [Laughs]… So what do you want me to tell the MahoganyGirl's…Are you off the market, shacking up, on lock down, jumping the broom…Should they give up on pursuing you?
LW: Never give up!
